Otok Ljubezni, Beltinci

A well known turist destination if you're in Prekmurje. The "Island of love" is a nice place to stop with your friends or family. You can take a tour of the local river mill and river ferry customs and even take a ride. They offer a little meal experiance with traditional baked bread with minced lard "pajani krüj in zaseka". The whole complex is situated next tho the Mura river under the trees. It's a nice place all that it's missing is a good place to eat.

While in Prekmurje you need to go for a stroll next to the Mura. That's a must I would say. Hence, my partner and I decided to go to Otok Ljubezni. On this "Love island" you can leave a small lock behind as a token of your love, dive into the past, and immerse yourself in nature. I enjoyed visiting the old water mill. I had never seen anything like it before. It was partially damaged by floods (I assume), but is still worth a quick visit. There are other well-preserved mills on various locations in Prekmurje in case you want to see one fully intact. Furthermore, I also enjoyed some peace and quiet in nature, by the Mura. In the small museum you could also see how people in the past used to live on the banks of the Mura river. Anyhow, you can also sip on a beer or a coffee at the local souvenir shop while your spouse and kids explore the area. Quick side notes: - usually there are a lot of mosquitoes. So bringing a spray/repellent along on your walk is not a luxury. - for all those RV and camper van enthusiasts out there, you can also stay over night here, and get some electricity and water.
