At Kobarid Museum learn about one of the bloodiest battles of World War I, which Ernest Hemingway vividly described in his novel "A Farewell to Arms." Unlike most of the battles, which were fought in the trenches, this one took place on hilly terrain. A very modern two-building complex houses graphic exhibits documenting the course of the fighting and the lives of soldiers. See photographs, uniforms, weapons, personal items, maps, and large landscape models. Most of the text is in English and you can also watch a 10-minute film in several languages to get the big picture. • Before coming here I did not know anything about WW1 in Slovenia. Or Italy taking so much land between the wars. Or that Trieste was Slovenian. Very interesting and helpful lady at the desk. Spent three hours here. Lots to see.
  • A nice collection of items although a bit small - a single uniform for each nation, a single rifle per nation,.... A large portion of museum are plaques with information and timelines. Worth of visiting but not traveling to Kobarid solely for the museum.
