Church of St. Michael, Ljubljana

#13 of 24 in Historic Sites in Ljubljana
Church · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Considered among the most unique and most significant creations of architect Joze Plecnik, Church of St. Michael strikingly mixes elements of a traditional church features with those of a Greek temple. To deal with the marshy ground, the architect designed the building on piles, with the upper structure made of wood. Part of the design actually comes from Plecnik's plans for the national library in the capital city, featuring an interesting stairway that goes to the church's belfry. • Interestingly particular church in the outskirts of Ljubljana, designed by Jože Plečnik. One of a kind. Easily reachable by bike. Unfortunately I could not see inside it, so that's why I'm removing one star.
  • It's beautiful and a real marvel to see.
