Trip Planner: Slovenia / Lower Carniola Region / Ljubljana / Dragon Bridge
Walk across the Art Nouveau Dragon Bridge and admire the four large dragons protecting its corners, symbols from the city's coat-of-arms. Built at the very beginning of the 20th century, it was the city's first reinforced concrete bridge and Slovenia's first bridge paved with asphalt. Floral motifs decorate its arch and railings, while smaller griffins embellish the plinths of its eight bronze candelabras. Notice the dashes of red paint at the dragons' mouths and claws, recent additions by an anonymous enthusiast. We had a great time during Easter, strolling through the market, buying our Spanish strawberries and Potica cake. From there its a short walk to the Castle funicular railway

The Dragon Bridge, adorned with famous dragon statues, appears in the most recognizable images of Ljubljana. If you haven't been photographed next to a Dragon Bridge dragon, you can hardly claim that you have visited Ljubljana. The four dragon statues, which look slightly terrifying and almost real are a masterpiece which has been exciting imagination since the bridge was built.
It was our start and finish of our walk around Ljubljana city centre where we have found free parking on a Sunday. With the Tromostovje bridge, this is the one which stands out the most with the iconic dragons on each side! The dragon has a rich history inbuilt with the city from the origins coat of arms depicted as a monster to later protector of the city! Beautiful bridge and in a charming city!
