Dragon Bridge, Ljubljana

#6 of 290 in Things to do in Ljubljana
Bridge · Tourist Spot
Walk across the Art Nouveau Dragon Bridge and admire the four large dragons protecting its corners, symbols from the city's coat-of-arms. Built at the very beginning of the 20th century, it was the city's first reinforced concrete bridge and Slovenia's first bridge paved with asphalt. Floral motifs decorate its arch and railings, while smaller griffins embellish the plinths of its eight bronze candelabras. Notice the dashes of red paint at the dragons' mouths and claws, recent additions by an anonymous enthusiast. • A beautiful and ancient bridge. Decorated with dragon statues. There are many restaurants and cafes around. The Old Town area is the most beautiful in the city and along with this special bridge, a...  more »
  • The Dragon Bridge is a basic bridge guarded by 2 dragons on each side and at each end of the bridge... despite being ornate, they are still just a few decorative pieces that do look pretty cool.  more »
  • The Dragon Bridge is one of the many bridges that crosses the Ljubljana River to the old town, its most defining feature being the dragon statues that guard the bridge. It is a vehicle and pedestrian bridge that is used heavily by Slovenians and other than that, it is just a bridge. It is among one of the must-visit places in Ljubljana, though I would not put it too high on my list as the only thing you can do here is to photograph yourself next to the dragon. You can also enjoy the scenery of the river, though that itself can be done on the other bridges around Ljubljana too. If you have the time, by all means take a walk along the river and cross the many bridges that links the river, but I won't say that it's a must-visit place on its own.
  • This is without a doubt the best bridge. Believe me. All the other bridges? Total losers. Everyone says so. Even the pope.
