Monument · Hidden Gem · Landmark
Stretching between the Dragon Bridge and the Triple Bridge, Vodnik Square (Vodnikov trg) is best-known for an open-air market with stalls of fruits, vegetables, fresh flowers, herbs, and meat products. Built after the 1895 earthquake in the place of an old monastery, the square is named after Valentin Vodnik--a Slovenian poet, priest, and journalist whose statue graces the plaza. Walk through the market and buy some souvenirs, local honey, or a light snack. Occasionally you can catch sight of musicians playing traditional instruments. A path across the street leads to Castle Hill. Make Vodnik Square (Vodnikov trg) a part of your Ljubljana vacation plans using our Ljubljana trip planner.
