Create an itinerary including Postojna Cave
Ride on a double-track railway through the underground tunnels of Postojna Cave and see colorful rock formations, as well as the 100 species that make the caves their home. One of the largest caves in the extensive karst plateau features 21 km (13 mi) of passages, galleries, and chambers illuminated by electric lighting. A historical train takes you to large halls adorned with chandelier-like stalactites and limestone "sculptures," such as "the brilliant," a shiny white limestone formation. Meet the olm, a salamander popularly called the dragon's offspring or the human fish. Archduke Ferdinand I was the first to officially visit the cave in 1819, but several writings on the cave walls date all the way back to the 13th century. Note that audioguides are available in a range of languages. You can plan Postojna trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • This one was on my bucket list for years, and finally got to see it. If you are well-prepared and know what you are going to attend, it will be a memorable experience. First of all, buy your tickets in advance! Even if you have just arrived to the parking lot, buy your tickets on the phone, so you don't have to queue at the ticket office, and you can spend your waiting time meaningfully. The surroundings are beautiful, there is a self-service restaurant, souvenir shops, you can visit the Vivarium (if you have bought a combined ticket), anything is better than waiting in an endless line. You can enter the cave no earlier than 15 minutes before your time shown on your ticket. The cave itself is well lit, you arrive by a train, the walk is relatively easy, even elderly can do the tour. The sights are phenomenal, you get some basic information from your tour guide (available in several languages, or you can choose to rent a personal audio guide in many more languages), there is even a souvenir shop and a toilet at the end of your route (within the cave). The whole experience is like going to a Disneyland, with its pros and cons (well maintained place with good infrastructure, everything happens like clockwork, but with lots of people on busy days). Make sure you wear the proper outfit for the tour, which means waterproof clothing and dressed up for 10 degrees Celsius. The train ride is a little windier, the walk itself will keep you a bit warmer. Make sure you follow the etiquette (shown by the Caveman), and enjoy the tour! And don't forget to visit Skocjan cave too, which is less crowded, and you spend more time in the nature.
  • This cave experience was phenomenal. Finally I had the chance to experience it and appreciate every bit of the tour! It has always been in my bucket list. I promise you it is going to be a memorable experience. You arrive by train into the cave. Well lite cave with easy steps to get around it. The whole experience is like going to a Disneyland. It is a well maintained place with good infrastructure. Do ensure you wear the proper outfit for the tour, which means waterproof clothing and dressed up for 10 degrees Celsius. The train ride is a little windier, the walk itself will keep you a bit warmer.
