  • The small church, which although closed is visible through the entrance grate, dates back to the 15th century and was consecrated in 1449 by the bishop of Trieste, Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. It is probable that it was built by Erasmo da Lueg, lord and staunch defender of the castle of Predjama and that it was once full of paintings, which are partially visible today. Following renovations, not much of the original structure remains, but there is a beautiful Renaissance portal (1637), a Baroque altar and, above it, a painting of Our Lady of Sorrows (with a dead Christ) and another dedicated to Mary taken to heaven. Next to the church stands a historic linden tree which, it is said, holds under its roots the remains of Erasmus of Lueg, buried here by his beloved.
