The small church, which although closed is visible through the entrance grate, dates back to the 15th century and was consecrated in 1449 by the bishop of Trieste, Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. It is likely that it was built by Erasmus of Lueg, lord and staunch defender of Predjama castle and that was once rich in paintings, now partially visible. Following the alterations not much remains of the original structure, but there is a beautiful Renaissance portal (1637), a Baroque altar and, above it, a painting of the Madonna dell'Addolorata (with a dead Christ) and another dedicated to Mary carried to heaven. Next to the church stands a historic lime tree which, it is said, holds the remains of Erasmo da Lueg, buried here by his beloved, under its roots.
