Create an itinerary including Škocjan Caves
Explore the largest known underground canyon in the world at Škocjan Caves, a World Heritage Site famous for its many waterfalls, diverse stalactite formations, and limestone pools. The caves feature 6 km (3.7 mi) of underground passages and one of the largest underground halls. With a total depth of over 200 m (656 ft), this system of limestone caves was inhabited as early as Mesolithic times. On your way through, you will pass a 116 m (380 ft) long tunnel, a dry river bed, a so-called "silent cave" and "murmuring cave." Look out for the huge stalagmites called the Giants and the Organ. The highlight of the trip is crossing over a 45 m (148 ft) high bridge. Bring a light jacket and put on good walking shoes since the paths can be slippery. Put Škocjan Caves and other Škocjan attractions into our Škocjan day trip tool, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Eehhh... A big hole under the earth. Nothing else. I guess it would b great if such caves would be flooded with light, so one could really see all this amazing colours and feel the size of caves...

  • Incredible underground network of caves that takes a couple of hours on a guided tour. The concrete walkway is lit, and has hand rails but not suitable for anyone unsure on their feet. Well worth the extra 250m walk at the end to see the viewpoint on a clear day! There is car parking on site, with toilets and a cafe.
  • Pictures don't do justice for this amazing place. We took a round trip to get here, however after seeing it, I realised it could be a destination itself. Yep as someone else said, you could build skyscrapers inside. At the beginning there is an artificial tunnel that leads to the cave and in the first part there are some thousands years old stalactites and stalagmites and the galleries are long, but not yet so tall, approaching the second part of the cave one can hear the river and than a breathtaking underground gorge will lie bellow.
