10 days in Novo Mesto, Litija & Šentrupert Itinerary

Novo Mesto is the city on a bend of the Krka River in the City Municipality of Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia, close to the border with Croatia. Venture out of the city with trips to Celje (Lake Šmartno, The Photographic Studio of Josip Pelikan, &more), Volčji Potok Arboretum (in Radomlje) and Brežice Castle (in Brežice). There's lots more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Otočec Castle Park, pause for some serene contemplation at Olimje Monastery, take in the views from Kandija Bridge, and identify plant and animal life at Jelenov Greben Homestead.

Ljubljana to Novo Mesto is an approximately 1-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or take a train. In August in Novo Mesto, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 17°C at night. You'll set off for Litija on the 8th (Sat).

Litija is a town in the Litija Basin in central Slovenia. Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sat): learn more about the world around you at Open-Air Museum of Josip Jurčič, then take in the pleasant sights at Pristava Tourist Village, and then step into the grandiose world of Bogenšperk Castle. On the next day, whizz through the canopy at Adventure Park Geoss, explore the activities along Gradisko Lake, and then take an in-depth tour of Eko Muzej.

Drive from Novo Mesto to Litija in an hour. Expect a daytime high around 31°C in August, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 10th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Šentrupert.

Šentrupert is a village in the traditional Lower Carniola region in southeastern Slovenia. Venture out of the city with trips to Stari Trg pri Lozu (Snežnik Castle, Hunting Collection and Dormouse Museum, &more), Lake Bloke (in Nova Vas) and Velika Planina (in Stahovica).
