Bovec — 2 nights

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Outdoor Museum Kolovrat (muzej na prostem) and Log Pod Mangartom Military Cemetery. Step out of the city life by going to Zipline and Soča Valley. Change things up with a short trip to Vršič Pass in Kranjska Gora (about 48 minutes away). The adventure continues: add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour, take in the dramatic scenery at Kozjak Waterfall, examine the collection at Kobarid Museum, and take in breathtaking views at Virje Waterfall.

Florence, Italy to Bovec is an approximately 5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of train and car; or do a combination of flight and bus. In August, Bovec is little chillier than Florence - with highs of 28°C and lows of 14°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Bohinjsko Jezero.

The mirror-like waters of the largest glacial lake in Slovenia make Bohinjsko Jezero one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Sun): take in the awesome beauty at Planina Zajamniki, admire the sheer force of Savica Waterfall, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Vogel, and finally explore the activities along Lake Bohinj.

Portorož — 2 nights

A resort town on the country's scenic Adriatic coastline, Portoroz offers many spas with all kinds of therapeutic treatments, many based on the brine and mud from the area's salt pans.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Mon): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. George's Church, then see the interesting displays at Magical World of Shells Museum, then enjoy the sand and surf at Strunjan Nature Reserve, and finally stroll through Portorož Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: Head underground at Škocjan Caves, then kick back and relax at Svetilnik Beach, and then kick back and relax at Zusterna Beach.

You can drive from Bohinjsko Jezero to Portorož in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. In August, Portorož is somewhat warmer than Bohinjsko Jezero - with highs of 34°C and lows of 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Ljubljana.
