Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Get out of town with these interesting Ljubljana side-trips: Pokljuka Gorge (in Krnica), Bled (Bled Castle, Ojstrica, &more) and Vintgar Gorge (in Zgornje Gorje). Spend the 18th (Wed) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's still lots to do: explore the fascinating underground world of Postojna Cave, explore the historical opulence of Ljubljana Castle, take in the views from Triple Bridge, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cathedral of St. Nicholas.

Zurich, Switzerland to Ljubljana is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. In August, plan for daily highs up to 31°C, and evening lows to 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Mon) so you can go by car to Piran.

Piran

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): enjoy the sand and surf at Strunjan Nature Reserve, then Head underground at Škocjan Caves, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Škocjanski Zatok Nature Reserve. On the 25th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: make a trip to Walls of Piran, then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, then get a new perspective on nature at Magical World of Shells Museum, and finally make a trip to Tartini Square.
