Portorož — 2 nights

Bring the kids along to Magical World of Shells Museum and Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum. Take a break from Portorož with a short trip to Škocjan Caves in Škocjan, about 38 minutes away. There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Tartini Square, head outdoors with Šalet Tunnel, enjoy the sand and surf at Strunjan Nature Reserve, and admire the landmark architecture of Benečanka Venetian House.

Barcelona, Spain to Portorož is an approximately 8-hour combination of flight and shuttle. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and shuttle. Plan for a bit cooler nights when traveling from Barcelona in August since evenings lows in Portorož dip to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Wed) early enough to drive to Bovec.

Change things up with these side-trips from Bovec: Kranjska Gora (Nadiza & Vršič Pass), Planica Nordic Centre & Zipline (in Rateče) and Martuljek Waterfalls (in Gozd Martuljek). There's still lots to do: get outside with Outdoor Activities, explore the stunning scenery at Virje Waterfall, explore the activities along Source of the Soča River, and appreciate the views at Soča Valley.
