Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Ljubljana Old Town and Lake Bled. Step off the beaten path and head to Cathedral of St. Nicholas and Escape Room Enigmarium. Get out of town with these interesting Ljubljana side-trips: Postojna (Predjama Castle & Postojna Cave), Bled Castle (in Bled) and Vintgar Gorge (in Zgornje Gorje). And it doesn't end there: stroll around Tivoli Park, browse the eclectic array of goods at Ljubljana Central Market, look for gifts at OrCa Cruelty-Free Shop, and make a trip to Prešeren Square.

Maribor to Ljubljana is an approximately 1.5-hour shuttle ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. In June, daily temperatures in Ljubljana can reach 29°C, while at night they dip to 14°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Piran.

Piran — 1 night

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Mon): don't miss a visit to Tartini Square, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. George's Church, then examine the collection at Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Koper Cathedral and Bell Tower, and finally make a trip to Walls of Piran. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hrastovlje Church of the Holy Trinity, do a tasting at Vinakoper, and then admire the landmark architecture of Praetorian Palace.

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.

Change things up with a short trip to Tolmin Gorge in Tolmin (about 48 minutes away).
