Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Ljubljana is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Amsterdam in August: highs in Ljubljana hover around 31°C, while lows dip to 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Portorož.

A resort town on the country's scenic Adriatic coastline, Portoroz offers many spas with all kinds of therapeutic treatments, many based on the brine and mud from the area's salt pans.
Family-friendly places like Strunjan Nature Reserve and Magical World of Shells Museum will thrill your kids. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Portorož Beach and Svetilnik Beach. Step out of Portorož with an excursion to Škocjan Caves in Škocjan--about 36 minutes away. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Zusterna Beach, pause for some serene contemplation at Parish Church of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary, make a trip to Tartini Square, and stroll through Koper City Beach.

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
