Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Get out of town with these interesting Ljubljana side-trips: Postojna (Predjama Castle, Postojna Cave, &more), Bled (Straža Bled, Parasailing & Paragliding, &more) and France Preseren's Birth House - museum (in Žirovnica). There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Ljubljana Old Town, explore the striking landscape at Vintgar Gorge, enjoy breathtaking views from Skyscraper (Neboticnik), and take in the views from Triple Bridge.

Milan, Italy to Ljubljana is an approximately 4-hour combination of flight and shuttle. You can also drive; or take a shuttle. Expect slightly colder evenings in Ljubljana when traveling from Milan in July, with lows around 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Thu) so you can go by car to Piran.

Piran — 4 nights

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Piran: Boris Lisjak Winery (in Dutovlje) and Škocjan Caves (in Škocjan). The adventure continues: don't miss a visit to Tartini Square, take a leisurely stroll along Port Piran, experience rural life at Fonda Fish Farm, and learn more about the world around you at Magical World of Shells Museum.

You can drive from Ljubljana to Piran in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Ljubljana in August, plan for a bit warmer nights in Piran, with lows around 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Mon) early enough to drive to Bohinjsko Jezero.

Bohinjsko Jezero — 2 nights

The mirror-like waters of the largest glacial lake in Slovenia make Bohinjsko Jezero one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
On the 9th (Tue), get engrossed in the history at Oplen House Museum, stroll the grounds of Ukanc Military Cemetery, take in the dramatic scenery at Savica Waterfall, then glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Bohinj. Keep things going the next day: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Vogel, take in the dramatic scenery at Mostnica Gorge, and then take in the awesome beauty at Planina Zajamniki.

You can drive from Piran to Bohinjsko Jezero in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August, Bohinjsko Jezero is little chillier than Piran - with highs of 28°C and lows of 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Wed) early enough to drive to Bovec.

Bovec — 5 nights

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
Venture out of the city with trips to Tolmin Gorge (in Tolmin), Kranjska Gora (Vršič Pass, Lake Jasna, &more) and Alpine Botanical Garden Juliana (in Trenta). There's much more to do: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, browse the exhibits of Sabotin Park Miru, see the interesting displays at Kobarid Museum, and stroll around Sabotin - Peace Park.

Traveling by car from Bohinjsko Jezero to Bovec takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August in Bovec, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 14°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Mon) to allow time to drive back home.
