Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Explore Ljubljana's surroundings by going to Vintgar Gorge (in Zgornje Gorje), Škofja Loka (Špan's Homestead & Capuchin Bridge) and Museum of Pharmacy and Alchemy (in Radovljica). Spend the 9th (Tue) exploring nature at Triglav National Park. Next up on the itinerary: Head underground at Postojna Cave, take a stroll through Ljubljana Old Town, fly down the slopes at Straža Bled, and head off the coast to Bled Island.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Ljubljana is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Traveling from Amsterdam in August, expect nights in Ljubljana to be about the same, around 15°C, while days are a bit warmer, around 31°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Piran.

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Piran: Škocjan Caves (in Škocjan) and Military Museum Tabor (in Lokev). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Tartini Square, examine the collection at Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. George's Church, and discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Traveling by car from Ljubljana to Piran takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Ljubljana in August, expect a bit warmer with lows of 20°C in Piran. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Fri) early enough to drive to Bohinjsko Jezero.

Bohinjsko Jezero — 2 nights

The mirror-like waters of the largest glacial lake in Slovenia make Bohinjsko Jezero one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
On the 20th (Sat), admire the sheer force of Slap Grmečica, take in the dramatic scenery at Mostnica Gorge, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St John the Baptist, then get outside with Outdoor Activities, and finally explore the activities along Lake Bohinj. Keep things going the next day: admire the sheer force of Savica Waterfall, then hit the slopes at Vogel, then take an in-depth tour of Oplen House Museum, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Planina Zajamniki.

Traveling from Piran in August, things will get slightly colder in Bohinjsko Jezero: highs are around 28°C and lows about 14°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Sun) so you can go by car to Bovec.

Bovec — 4 nights

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
Explore Bovec's surroundings by going to Kranjska Gora (Mojčin Dom na Vitrancu, Nadiza, &more). There's still lots to do: get outside with Outdoor Activities, examine the collection at Kobarid Museum, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, and appreciate the views at Soča Valley.
