Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ljubljanica River and Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Attractions like Cankarjevo Nabrežje and Franciscan Church of the Annunciation make great kid-friendly stops. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ljubljana: Škofja Loka (Puštal Castle, Špital and the Špital Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, &more), Rakov Škocjan Landscape Park (in Rakek) and Cross Cave (in Grahovo). Spend the 19th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Next up on the itinerary: glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, explore the historical opulence of Celje Castle, make a trip to Gornji Trg, and contemplate the long history of Old Town Centre of Radovljica.

Nantes, France to Ljubljana is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and shuttle; or drive. In July in Ljubljana, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 17°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to drive to Koper.

Koper — 5 nights

A bridge between the Mediterranean and alpine regions of Slovenia, Koper is a small town with big appeal.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Strunjan Nature Reserve and Koper City Beach. Visit Muda Gate and Socerb Castle for their historical value. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Škocjanski Zatok Nature Reserve, don't miss a visit to Church of St. Maurus, admire the striking features of Piazza Tito, and see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Traveling by car from Ljubljana to Koper takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Ljubljana in July, expect a bit warmer with lows of 20°C in Koper. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sat) so you can drive to Bovec.

Traveling from Koper in July, things will get a bit cooler in Bovec: highs are around 29°C and lows about 15°C.
