Cycling may be one of the best ways to tour Maribor, a great base for exploring the surrounding area and conquering Pohorje Mountains.
Step off the beaten path and head to Old Vine House and Otočec Castle Park. Escape the urban bustle at Pyramid Archaeological Site and Hell Cave. Venture out of the city with trips to Radgonske Gorice (in Gornja Radgona), Golf Grad Otočec (in Otočec) and Winery Marof (in Mačkovci). Ljubljana to Maribor is an approximately 1.5-hour shuttle ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 32°C in July, and nighttime lows around 18°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Thu) so you can go by car to Bled.

Bled

The most popular resort in Slovenia, Bled is marked by its iconic church steeple and medieval castle on glacial Lake Bled.
Take a break from the city and head to Pokljuka Gorge and Royal Bled Golf Course. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Old Town Centre of Radovljica and Monument To Four Courageous Men. Change things up with these side-trips from Bled: Bohinjsko Jezero (Lake Bohinj & Vogel), Kranjska Gora (Lake Jasna, The Russian Chapel, &more) and Ljubljana (Tivoli Park, Union Experience, &more). Traveling by car from Maribor to Bled takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In August in Bled, expect temperatures between 31°C during the day and 15°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Kobarid.

Kobarid

At the very heart of picturesque Soca Valley, Kobarid delivers some of the most stunning views of Slovenia's highest peaks, as well as a chance to enjoy some exciting alpine rivers.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Soča Valley and Virje Waterfall. Step out of the city life by going to Planica Nordic Centre & Zipline and Boka Waterfall. Venture out of the city with trips to Solkan Bridge (in Solkan), Dobrovo (Klet Brda & Bjana) and Lepa Vida Boutique Winery (in Šempas). You can drive from Bled to Kobarid in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. In August, daytime highs in Kobarid are 28°C, while nighttime lows are 14°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Thu) so you can drive to Piran.

Piran

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Visit Strunjan Nature Reserve and Svetilnik Beach for some beach relaxation. Get in touch with nature at Scuba & Snorkeling and Divača Cave. Explore Piran's surroundings by going to Vino Zorz (in Slap), Tourist Information Centre - Galerija (in Postojna) and Vipava (Petric Winery - Vipava & Wines Jamsek). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Port Piran, learn about winemaking at Vinakoper, kick back and relax at Portorož Beach, and get a sense of history and politics at Town Hall.

Drive from Kobarid to Piran in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August, Piran is somewhat warmer than Kobarid - with highs of 34°C and lows of 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Thu) to allow time to drive back home.
