Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Parasailing & Paragliding and Straža Bled. Visiting Zipline and Peričnik Falls will get you outdoors. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ljubljana: Žirovnica (Plecnik's Monument in Breznica & Collection Anze Mrak - Items from the First World War), Church of St. George (in Zgornje Gorje) and Bled (Pokljuka Plateau, St. Martin's Parish Church, &more). Spend the 14th (Thu) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Dedicate the 18th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Next up on the itinerary: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Velika Planina, Head underground at Cross Cave, get to know the fascinating history of Cankarjevo Nabrežje, and walk around Tivoli Park.

Paris, France to Ljubljana is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 32°C in July, and nighttime lows around 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sun) so you can catch the shuttle to Maribor.

Maribor — 6 nights

Cycling may be one of the best ways to tour Maribor, a great base for exploring the surrounding area and conquering Pohorje Mountains.
Visiting Pyramid Archaeological Site and Black Lake will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Old Vine House and Celje Castle. Get out of town with these interesting Maribor side-trips: Ptuj (Ptuj Castle & Borl Castle), Fala Hydroelectric Power Plant Museum (in Fala) and Junež Farm (in Rogaška Slatina). Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of St Florian Column, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, appreciate the extensive heritage of Grajski Trg square, and appreciate the history behind Maister's monument.

Koper — 7 nights

A bridge between the Mediterranean and alpine regions of Slovenia, Koper is a small town with big appeal.
Escape the urban bustle at Portorož Beach and Lipica Stud Farm. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Tartini Square and Praetorian Palace. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Koper: Avgust Cernigoj Gallery (in Lipica) and Nanos Plateau (in Podnanos). Next up on the itinerary: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Koper Cathedral and Bell Tower, don't miss a visit to Walls of Piran, contemplate the long history of Fontico, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. George's Church.

Bovec — 8 nights

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
Get outdoors at Zipline and Tolmin Gorge. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kozjak Waterfall and Boka Waterfall. Venture out of the city with trips to Kranjska Gora (Zelenci Nature Reserve, The Russian Chapel, &more), Tolmin (Tolmin Castle & Tolmin Museum) and Three Country Border (in Rateče). There's still lots to do: admire the verdant scenery at Soča Valley, tee off at Golf Club Bovec, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and examine the collection at Kobarid Museum.

Drive from Koper to Bovec in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a bus. In August, Bovec is a bit cooler than Koper - with highs of 28°C and lows of 14°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Bohinjsko Jezero.
