Piran — 5 nights

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Bring the kids along to Tartini Square and St. George's Church. Explore Piran's surroundings by going to Kojsko (Sabotin Park Miru & Šmartno) and Jewish Cemetery (in Nova Gorica). There's still lots to do: get a new perspective on nature at Magical World of Shells Museum, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, take a leisurely stroll along Port Piran, and get great views at Strunjan Cliff.

Ancona, Italy to Piran is an approximately 6-hour car ride. You can also drive. In July in Piran, expect temperatures between 35°C during the day and 21°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Portorož.

A resort town on the country's scenic Adriatic coastline, Portoroz offers many spas with all kinds of therapeutic treatments, many based on the brine and mud from the area's salt pans.
Attractions like Fonda Fish Farm and Scuba & Snorkeling make great kid-friendly stops. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Strunjan Nature Reserve, enjoy the sand and surf at Zusterna Beach, make a trip to Parish Church of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary, and stroll around Forma Viva.
