Upper Carniola Region travel guide
Experience quintessential Slovenia, nestled between snow-capped peaks and lush meadows, in Upper Carniola Region, one of country's most picturesque areas. In the shadow of Triglav Mountain, the national symbol of Slovenia, you'll find a landscape dotted with rolling hills, thick forests, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear Alpine lakes. Throughout the year, Upper Carniola (known locally as Gorenjska), serves as a haven for lovers of the great outdoors. In the wintertime, it offers some of the country's best skiing and snowboarding, while during the warmer months it's a prime destination for hiking, fishing, cycling, or horseback riding. Things to do include visiting historical sights, such as castles and churches, traditional farms, and taverns and restaurants that offer local specialties in an authentic Alpine atmosphere. Take a tour of the region's cities, immerse yourself in the local culture, or try to make a fortune at one of the casinos.
