Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
Get out of town with these interesting Piran side-trips: Ferrari Garden (in Štanjel), Predjama Castle (in Postojna) and Škocjan Caves (in Škocjan). There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Tartini Square, take in the waterfront at Port Piran, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. George's Church, and discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

The most popular resort in Slovenia, Bled is marked by its iconic church steeple and medieval castle on glacial Lake Bled.
Change things up with these side-trips from Bled: Bohinjsko Jezero (Savica Waterfall & Lake Bohinj). Spend the 11th (Wed) exploring nature at Triglav National Park. You can drive from Izola to Bled in 2 hours. Other options are to take a bus; or do a combination of bus and train. Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Izola in August; daily highs in Bled reach 31°C and lows reach 15°C.
