Sitting astride the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana is marked with picturesque bridges and a marketplace, designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Ljubljana Central Market and Ika. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Cathedral of St. Nicholas and Anthony's Shaft Mining Museum. Dedicate the 15th (Tue) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. And it doesn't end there: visit Ljubljana Old Town, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Sveta Trojica, learn the secrets of beer at a beer tour and tasting, and make a trip to Ljubljana Castle.

Valletta, Malta to Ljubljana is an approximately 6.5-hour combination of flight and shuttle. You can also fly; or do a combination of bus and train. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Valletta in August; daily highs in Ljubljana reach 31°C and lows reach 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Fri) to allow time to drive to Piran.

Piran — 1 night

Considered one of the prettiest cities on the country's coast, Piran owes much of its development to salt.
On the 19th (Sat), get a taste of the local shopping with Tourist Information Centre - Galerija, look for gifts at Guštarna, explore the historical opulence of Predjama Castle, kick back and relax at Strunjan Nature Reserve, then admire the landmark architecture of Sodna palaca, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at Church of St. Bernardine.

Drive from Ljubljana to Piran in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Ljubljana in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Piran, with lows of 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Sat) early enough to drive to Bohinjsko Jezero.

Bohinjsko Jezero — 1 night

The mirror-like waters of the largest glacial lake in Slovenia make Bohinjsko Jezero one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Sun): contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Bohinj, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St John the Baptist, admire the sheer force of Mostnica Gorge, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St. Nicholas, and finally see the interesting displays at Museum of Alpine Dairy Farming.

Bovec — 2 nights

In the north-west part of Slovenia, Bovec sits in an area known for its rich and colorful culture and history.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Mon): don't miss a visit to Fort Hermann, get outside with Mangart Saddle, then look for all kinds of wild species at Planica Valley, and finally make a trip to Predil Pass.
